Marcel Dednam is a South African pianist, arranger, composer, and educator based in Pretoria. He has over ten years’ experience lecturing in jazz at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and is actively involved in both performance and music education.
He holds a National Diploma and BTech in Music from TUT and completed his Master of Music (MMus) in Jazz Performance in 2019 at the University of Pretoria. Marcel currently lectures at TUT, teaches piano at Pro Arte Music Academy, and regularly accompanies a wide range of artists.
Throughout his career, Marcel has collaborated with well-known performers including Nataniël, Anna Davel, Jannie Du Toit, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Leon Gropp, Corlea Botha, and Peter Auret, among others. In 2015, he was a semi-finalist in the 5th UNISA National Piano Competition.
Marcel released his debut original jazz album, Blue Bird, in 2017, followed by two original singles, Sustained and Distance, released in 2024. He actively performs and presents his original music in various settings. Marcel also regularly performs as part of a jazz duo with saxophonist Deryn Dednam, presenting performances at venues and events across Pretoria.
