Pianist, Composer, Arranger

Marcel Dednam is an award-winning South African pianist, arranger, composer, and educator based in Pretoria. He has over ten years’ experience lecturing in jazz at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and is actively involved in both performance and music education.

He holds a National Diploma and BTech in Music from TUT and completed his Master of Music (MMus) in Jazz Performance at the University of Pretoria in 2019. Marcel currently lectures at TUT, teaches piano at Pro Arte Music Academy, and regularly accompanies a wide range of artists.

Throughout his career, Marcel has collaborated with well-known performers including Nataniël, Anna Davel, Jannie du Toit, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Leon Gropp, Corlea Botha, Werner Spies and Peter Auret, among others. In 2015, he was a jazz semi-finalist in the 5th UNISA National Piano Competition.

Marcel released his debut original jazz album, Blue Bird, in 2017, followed by two original singles, Sustained and Distance, in 2024. In 2026, his original jazz production Oorsprong received the Aardklop award for Best Classical/Crossover Production. He continues to perform and present his original music in various settings and regularly performs in a jazz duo with saxophonist Deryn Dednam at venues and events across Pretoria.
